We need a few volunteers with their own vehicles to pick up bags of groceries and deliver them to a food pantry. Once you sign up we will share the details of the pickup location and which food pantry you will be delivering to.
BERKSHIRE BOUNTY AND BERKSHIRE UNITED WAY TEAM UP FOR PITTSFIELD STUDENTS AND FAMILIES Berkshire Bounty and Berkshire United Way are teaming up to distribute grocery bags to help bridge the gap between Pittsfield Public Schools' summer lunch programs ending and the school year beginning. The size of Berkshire County's food-insecure population continues to grow. According to Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap, the food insecurity rates for children in Berkshire County grew by 5% between 2021 and 2022, from 11% to 16%. In response to increases in food insecurity, volunteers gathered together by Berkshire Bounty and Berkshire United Way will pack up to 300 grocery bags and distribute them to seven sites throughout Pittsfield. "We've started to make this a yearly event because the community needs it," stated Morgan Ovitsky, Berkshire Bounty's Executive Director. "Emergency food sites, including schools, pantries, and senior centers, are serving more people than ever and struggling to procure enough to satisfy the demand."
Here are the details of the event: When: August 26th 10:00 a.m. pick up at the church and deliver 30 bags of groceries to a Pittsfield food pantry.
