Who We Are

We strive to be an active, caring, joyful, open and affirming, committed Christian family who covenant with one another and with God to learn from each others’ differences and to worship together as we grow individually on our journey of faith; to support and appreciate each other; to be good stewards of our time, talent and treasure; to be more aware of and responsive to the diversity and needs of our community, remembering that all people are “Children of God”; to share with our children the teachings of Jesus Christ and help them begin their journey of faith; to support mission work worldwide; and by so doing be a constructive force in God’s world.

South Church wrote this mission statement as a congregation to make clear that this church would be about the task of making faith real in this complicated world. We don’t strive to save ourselves by our own works, but we do strive to walk with the servant, Jesus, who bent low and washed the feet of the disciples — and by extension, the feet of all those in need.

of our commitment to practical faith, this congregation serves the wider community in many ways, including:

  • Helping building Habitat For Humanity homes

  • Providing a weekly hot meal for the hungry and a food pantry serving 500 families in need each week

Our mission statement is not stagnant. We recently updated it to include “open and affirming.” Explore the rest of our website to catch other glimpses of how this one congregation lives out its faith.

What We Do

The South Church Food Pantry is available Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30–11am.

The pantry has evolved into an outdoor “Drive-Through Pantry” in order to limit contact that might spread the COVID-19 virus. For the “Drive-Through Pantry,” volunteers will load appropriate-size food boxes (according to family size) to people’s cars. An outdoor station for walkers will be set up in a separate location, away from the cars.

People may access the Food Pantry every week.

The Community Food Pantry provides food to local families on Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. Hours are listed below. The Pantry is located in Barrett Hall (rear entrance of the church). We welcome everyone.

Each week, we provide bags of food for about 500+ families in need.
