Berkshire Opera Festival is looking for volunteer ushers for three performances this summer: We have two performances of the American opera Glory Denied by Tom Cipullo on July 22 and 24, and one free concert performance, Much Ado About Shakespeare on August 11.
The performances of Glory Denied will take place at McConnell Theater in the Daniel Arts Center at Bard College at Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington.
The performance of Much Ado About Shakespeare will take place at The Mount, Edith Wharton’s Home, in Lenox.
Ushers create an inclusive and welcoming environment for the audience and help shows run smoothly. They also get to see performances for free!
We are looking for ushers for the following days and times:
-
Thursday, July 22nd, 6:30 pm (for 7:30 pm performance of Glory Denied).
-
Saturday, July 24th, 12:00 pm (for 1:00 pm performance of Glory Denied).
-
Wednesday, August 11th, 5:00 pm (for 6:00 pm performance of Much Ado About Shakespeare).
Before audiences arrive, ushers will help make sure the theater is ready to receive patrons by stuffing programs and setting up stations. When patrons arrive they will check them in, distribute programs, and direct them to their seats, or to entrances, exits, or restrooms. After the performances ushers will need to assist with tidying the venue and collecting any programs or litter.
Ushers must be physically able to stand for 30-45 minutes at a time, walk up and down stairs, and navigate the theater/performance space(s).
Ushers should dress in all black or black and white, and they will receive a pin-style badge from BOF to be identified as an usher.
There are additional protocols and guidelines that all ushers must follow in accordance with safety guidelines established with our performance venues.
-
All ushers are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and willing to show BOF management a copy of their CDC Vaccine Record card if requested.
-
Ushers will interact in close proximity to audience members (i.e. no social distancing).
-
Glory Denied will be performed indoors, so ushers are required to wear face masks regardless of their vaccination status.
