Needs From: Berkshire United Way

Posting flyers promoting Shakespeare & Company performances at area businesses, community centers, libraries, senior centers in the greater Berkshire County area, where such postings are allowed. We particularly need volunteers who can cover the following areas: Williamstown, North Adams, Pittsfield, Otis/Monterey, Chester, and New Marlborough in MA, and Hillsdale in NY.

Volunteers should have access to their own transportation.

Volunteers will earn vouchers toward free tickets toward Shakespeare & Company performances.

A variety of tasks are available including scanning newspaper articles, viewing, and cataloging video tapes, oral history interviews and research, and editing transcriptions.  Many tasks involve computer skills including a good comfort level with Microsoft Word and Excel, using speech-to-text software, and uploading material to a database. Once fully trained, volunteers can do much of this work from home and, in the case of some projects, do not necessarily have to be physically in the Berkshires. For every four hours of work, volunteers will receive a voucher toward free tickets to Shakespeare & Company performances.

Welcome patrons, hand them programs, and assist them in locating their seats. At certain performances, an usher may be asked to assist in scanning tickets. A training session on scanning tickets will be offered at the beginning of the season. Ushers should report to the House Manager at the performance location for their shift 1 hour before the performance to assist with program stuffing. Once the performance is done, ushers will need to remove any discarded programs, water bottles, etc. left by patrons. Ushers will have dedicated seats (in pairs) and can see the play at which they work.
